OEM hardware vendors regularly decide on a two hard cutoff dates. The first is the End of Life (EOL) date, and the second is the End of Service Life (ESOL).
EOL or “End of Life” means that the product in question has reached the end of its “useful lifespan.” This is when the manufacturer recommends a hardware refresh or an upgrade to the latest generation. When a product’s EOL date has approached the product manufacturer will no longer be selling or marketing the hardware in question. There may still be OEM maintenance options available, but at a much higher price point than before.
EOSL or “End of Service Life” means that not only is the manufacturer no longer selling or marketing the hardware, but all support and maintenance services including extended warrantees, will no longer be offered by the OEM.
